Translation on Guaman Poma

I chose to translate Ch. 20: The "Good Government" pg. 438. This text was difficult to understand, let alone translating it.

"In the month of January, in fifteen hundred sixty one [or to go] the governor of Count of Nieua. Don Antonio de Mendoza, the government leader at the time was Carlos."

"The fourth ruler of Peru, Diego López Zúñiga and  Velasco, Conde de Nieva (1561-1564), and the second ruler, Don Antonio de Mendoza (1551-1552), who is portrayed on this page . To Guaman Poma you forgot to include in its list of the top ten rulers in  the name of Count de Nieva, it rectifies this mention to put the finishing touches to the text. Guaman Poma continued working on his presentation of the rulers until the last moment (see GP, p. 466 and note 1, p. 474 and note 1). This exhibition and the chapter of "good government" is the gallery of rulers in the central of Poma's work, see this site Adorno, 2002"

With my understanding of the chapter so far is that Guman Poma wrote this chapter to describe the leaders or in this case the rulers overtaking his homeland. Also drawing them and describing them because they were a big part of his work

  1. Great job, I'm sure it was extremely difficult translating and I have to thank you for it because I wouldn't have understood the text!! Anyways, even in English it was a confusing paragraph to understand and I really liked that you made sense of it at the end. After your translation you kind added your opinion about that you got out of reading it, which helped comprehend the purpose of what Guaman Poma was saying.

  2. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to translate this text. And to be honest, it's really difficult for me to understand it. I am curious if this is written by Poma?

    1. It's a much older version of Spanish which was very difficult to understand. In my opinion, it was written by Poma because further on into the chapter he really starts going into greater detail about the "rulers" and what they did to the natives.

    1. Thanks and I would have to say that they were a big part because of all the hardships he saw his people go through, his homeland taken over, and what he went through also.

    2. Good job to the blogger as translating this wasnt direct. The concrete behind what garcia777 was saying was toward the end of the translation. "This exhibition and the chapter of "good government" is the gallery of rulers in the central of Poma's work"

  5. I read this chapter and backed out from translating because it was very difficult to do so. That being said I applaud you. The description by the leaders overtaking his homeland was translated in a manner I could not have done so.

  8. I found you did a great job from the translation from Spanish to English because for me this chapter you chose was one the most difficult for me to understand. Now after reading this I have a better understanding on what Guaman Poma was trying to say
